According to Rumen Radev, GERB leader Boyko Borissov is no longer capable of forming a majority government.
I would like to wish the parliament to succeed in its first important endeavors - the election of a speaker and a government. But we have to be aware that amid all the accumulated problems, the task of the 51st National Assembly is particularly difficult, amid the lingering suspicion of vote rigging has passed the threshold of public tolerance this time.
This is what President Rumen Radev said before the start of the 51st National Assembly, BGNES reports.
And against this backdrop, it is very important for the parliament itself to defend its independence even when it is threatened from within. And that is why I think it was key that it was MPs who took the case to the Constitutional Court - this is an indicator that the immune system of parliamentarism is functioning. And I will support every effort in this direction, Radev added.
I would have paid more serious attention to Borissov's words five years ago, when he could form majorities and governments, but the reality is different now. An apology is made by the one who does not deal with his responsibilities, not by the one who fulfils them, Radev said in response to the GERB leader's calls "Radev should either withdraw his decree on convening the 51st National Assembly or Yotova should apologize".
The presidential institution fulfils its responsibilities and says what the people see. It is the responsibility of the first political force to form a quality government. And we want this responsibility to be fulfilled, the President added.
He said the processes that unfold today in the National Assembly will provide direction for the future.
The formation of the government begins with the election of the NA Speaker so that consultations with the parties for a government can begin accordingly. Parliamentary mathematics can be discussed at the consultations, Radev added.
A little while ago Krum Zarkov had coffee with me, now I'm running to congratulate him - this is how Radev commented on the words of DPS-New Beginnings leader Delyan Peevski, who said that a new political entity was being formed in the presidency, headed by former Justice Minister Krum Zarkov. | BGNES
