President Rumen Radev handed the mandate to Rosen Zhelyazkov, who was nominated by GERB-SDS as Bulgaria's prime minister, BGNES reported.
The prime minister-designate was announced by Temenuzhka Petkova. "We took a unanimous decision that Rosen Zhelyazkov should receive the exploratory mandate to form a government. He has gone through all stages of state administration. He is an undisputed authority who enjoys authority in society," Petkova said.
"Dear Mr Zhelyazkov you know that by accepting this mandate you are taking on a great responsibility. That is why I have given you enough time to consider the possible options. Governance must be subordinated entirely to the public interest. ", Radev said and handed over the mandate.
In addition to Rosen Zhelyazkov, President Rumen Radev was joined by Tomislav Donchev, Daniel Mitov, Raya Nazaryan, Denitsa Sacheva and Temenuzhka Petkova.
The handing over of the mandate took place almost two and a half months after the early parliamentary elections on 27 October 2024.
The future government, which will be led by Zhelyazkov, will be tripartite.
It will include representatives of the largest political force, which won the vote, GERB-SDS, as well as representatives of BSP-United Left and "There is such a nation".
The government will also be backed by Ahmed Dogan's Democracy, Rights and Freedoms (DRF) group. This was agreed at the final meeting last night in parliament between the negotiating teams of the four political forces.
Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, at the beginning of today's meeting of the Council of Ministers, said there was nothing better than a regular government. "There will be a positive effect in two dimensions - besides having a regular government, with a clear majority the parliament will work better," he added.
The chairman of the Left Party Group Atanas Zafirov, before the start of today's parliamentary day, described the future government as "joint government".
The co-chairman of "We Continue the Change", Asen Vassilev, said that from now on the role of the PP-DB in parliament would be that of the opposition. | BGNES
