Quorum sought: Bulgarian Parliament is in extraordinary session

The National Assembly of Bulgaria will hold an extraordinary session on Friday. October 27 is the last day of the local elections campaign before the vote on Sunday, reports BGNES .


According to the previously announced agenda, the MPs will discuss Bulgarian President Rumen Radev's veto on the changes to the Energy Act, adopted by the National Assembly on October 5, 2023.

Also on the agenda is the first vote on the Draft Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Stocks of Oil and Oil Products. The drafters of the bill are MPs Delyan Dobrev from GERB-SDS and Yordan Tsonev from Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS).

Rosen Zhelyazkov convenes the deputies in an emergency at the insistence of GERB-SDS and DPS. The "We continue the change - Demoicratic Bulgaria" colition (WCC-DB) spoke against it, and the co-chair Kiril Petkov commented that dust is being thrown in the eyes of the people before the local vote. From Lovech Petkov announced that the MPs of the union will not enter the plenary hall. According to him, it is a "pre-election political circus".

According to Delyan Dobrev from GERB-SDS, "Democratic Bulgaria" want to repay 36 million BGN to "Lukoil". He commented that the "Lukoil's teat" turned out to be very large and, according to him, there were members of the cabinet, chairmen of parliamentary groups and ministers at it.

The leader of GERB-SDS Boyko Borisov advised the most friendly WCC-DB to come to the parliament and reject the veto. Otherwise, the WCC-DB risk having to reject the veto with the MPs from "Revival"party and Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP). Borisov urged WCC-DB not to experiment with the patience of GERB.

Cornelia Ninova stated that the BSP will not go to the parliament. According to her, all the decisions concerning the refinery in Burgas - from the beginning until now, are wrong and will lead to an increase in fuel prices, which will also affect people.

During the week, the leader of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov announced on the air of the national radio that his deputies will not participate in a meeting before the local vote.

Toshko Yordanov from "There is such a people" party stated that the people's representatives from the formation will attend the extraordinary partliamentary session.

On Wednesday, by 11 votes to three, the Energy Committee of the Parliament overrode the President's veto of the amendments to the Energy Law, adopted by the Parliament on October 5, which introduce liberalization of electricity prices for domestic consumers as well.

In addition, the commission adopted corrections to the Law on the Implementation of Restrictive Measures in view of Russia's actions destabilizing the situation in Ukraine. According to them, 50% of the fuel reserves should be stored in Bulgaria, and the remaining 50% abroad. The motives of GERB-SDS are that with 100% storage of fuel reserves in Bulgaria, a monopoly will be given to Lukoil. /BGNES
