Protesting energy workers and miners blocked the center of Bulgarian capital

Energy workers and miners from the country's coal regions protested under the windows of the government. Early this morning, some of them left Radnevo to express their displeasure in the power triangle once again, reported a BGNES reporter.

The trade union organizations KNSB and KT "Support" also participate in the organization. The demands of the protesters are that the operation of the coal plants should continue even after the liberalization of the electricity market.

Because of the carbon emissions quotas that the European Union imposes, the electricity produced by the thermal power plants is too expensive to sell on the exchange, which will lead to the closure of the plants for economic reasons, according to the protesters. And this will cause the loss of thousands of jobs in the sector.

Workers at the "Maritsa Iztok" complex, "Bobov dol" TPP, "Brickel" TPP and "Toplofikatsia-Pernik" are taking part in the rally. They insist that the coal plants continue to operate even after the liberalization of the electricity market./BGNES
