The article, titled "Bulgaria to the rescue: How the EU's poorest country secretly bailed out Ukraine," came in at number 12 on Politico's most-read stories of 2023.
“In the spring of 2022, the Ukrainian military experienced a desperate shortage of the fuel and Soviet-caliber ammunition it needed to fight the Russians. According to an investigation by Politico's sister publication The Velt, the aid (unknown to the rest of the world) is coming from a surprising place: Bulgaria.
