"We are currently discussing the next steps with the European Commission for Schengen, but we are not negotiating with Austria," said Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov.
Today he answered questions from citizens and media on Facebook.
Bulgaria will join Schengen on air and sea borders from March 31, but it is still waiting for a date for the abolition of land borders.
"The process is coordinated by representatives of the European Commission and the talks are with them," the Prime Minister pointed out.
According to him, the resistance comes from several politicians in Austria, who have the right to make this decision, but Bulgaria has the support of all other member countries.
Denkov stressed that the decision is beyond the control of the Bulgarian authorities, who are meanwhile strengthening the external border, acquiring more equipment and reducing the number of migrants crossing the border. /BGNES
