Plamena Mitkova qualified for the long jump final at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, Italy. In her last third attempt, the Bulgarian cleared 6.71 meters, her personal best, and placed herself among the 12 competitors who will compete for medals. The qualification standard was 6.70 m.
The achievement of the girls' world champion and Bulgaria's No. 1 athlete for 2023 is a centimetre better than her previous top result, achieved indoors in February in Sofia.
The best in the qualifications was the Olympic and two-time world champion Malaika Mihambo (Germany) with the best result in Europe for the year of 7.01 meters, and the achievement of the 19-year-old Mitkova was sixth in the screenings.
The final is tomorrow at 21:54 Bulgarian time.
Bulgaria's participation at Euro 2024 in Rome continues in the evening session of the championships. Tihomir Ivanov will compete in the high jump final and Yasna Petrova will run in the 10,000 meters final. | BGNES
