"On election night, we announced that the BSP was returning to local government. My words are confirmed. In the first round, we have 44 mayors of municipalities, which makes us the second political force after GERB". This was stated by Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Cornelia Ninova, BGNES reported.
"In the second round, we are going to 45 runoffs, including large regional centers - Sofia, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra and Haskovo. In 89 municipalities of the country, BSP is the first or second force in the runoff. In 30% of Bulgaria, BSP is the first or second political force", Ninova added. She commented that there is an increase in support for the left, as in these elections the votes are 267,216, or an increase of 50,000 votes, that is, 20%.
The leader of the left called for unity against GERB in the runoff.
"I cannot imagine that our candidate will be elected with the votes of GERB, against whom we have been fighting for 18 years in Sofia," she added.
