Negotiations between GERB-Union of Democratic Forces (GERB-UDF) and We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (WCC-DB) to form the next government have begun, reported BGNES.
"We are having talks, which I think are constructive at this stage," Denitsa Sacheva, the deputy chairperson of the Parliamentary Group of the GERB-UDF, told journalists upon entering the parliament. "We will speak after all the talks are over. It is no coincidence that we do not make statements because we do not want to prematurely comment on what is happening," she added.
Late last night, shortly after 10:30 p.m., the first round of negotiations ended.
On the part of GERB, an agreement was put on the table, which would turn the assembly into a coalition. WCC-DB, on the other hand, propose a memorandum with a mechanism for appointments to the regulators.
There is no officially released information about the outcome of yesterday's meeting. There is no exact time for scheduled negotiations today. The meetings are closed to the media, and journalists were not allowed in the building of the National Assembly.
The outcome of the negotiations depends on whether there will be a government with Prime Minister Maria Gabriel or early parliamentary elections to be held with a vote for MEPs in June.
BGNES reminds that Nikolay Denkov submitted his resignation on Tuesday, which was voted by the deputies on Wednesday.
Consultations of the Bulgarian President Rumen Radev with the parties represented in the parliament are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday before handing over the government mandate to Maria Gabriel.
On the part of GERB-UDF, an all-female team consisting of Maria Gabriel, Raya Nazaryan, Temenuzka Petkova and Denitsa Sacheva participated in the negotiations, while WCC-DB was represented by an all-male team consisting of Nikolay Denkov and the leaders of WCC-DB Kiril Petkov, Hristo Ivanov Atanas Atanasov and Asen Vasilev./BGNES
