Nearly half a ton of heroin was seized by customs officers at the Port of Burgas

436 kilograms of heroin in 434 packages were seized at the port of Burgas, announced the district prosecutor of Burgas, Georgi Chinev.

Prosecutor Chinev stated that this is the largest record amount of drugs seized on the territory of Burgas. The total value of the heroin amounts to about BGN 70 million ( EUR 35 million - editor's note). At the end of July, a cargo trailer with Kazakh registration arrived at one of the ports in Burgas by sea on the route Kyrgyzstan - Batumi - Burgas - Alexandroupolis - Greece. According to documents, it transported 4 machines for laying cables. After an unusually long stay, a Lithuanian tugboat arrived with a Kazakh driver, which formed a cargo group headed for Alexandroupolis - Greece," announced Ivan Sokolov, head of the "Combating Drug Trafficking" sector at the Burgas Customs Office.

During the X-ray control on August 9, a number of risk zones were discovered in the structure of the load.

The goal was for the heroin not to remain in Bulgaria, but to continue to Greece. At this stage, no one has been detained, as no specific individual has been identified who is complicit in the smuggling. For this type of crime, 15 to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of BGN 200,000 to 300,000 are provided. | BGNES
