Continuing his efforts to deepen international cooperation and promote the peaceful use of space, NASA Director Bill Nelson will visit Romania and Bulgaria.

His visit begins on Thursday, 17 October. Both countries have signed the Artemis Agreement, defining basic principles for the peaceful exploration of space, the US Embassy in the country said.

Nelson will meet with senior officials from both countries, including Marcel Ciolacu, prime minister of Romania, and Rumen Radev, president of Bulgaria.

In Romania, Nelson will hold talks with Bogdan-Gruja Ivan, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalisation, and Daniel Kruncanu, Director General of the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA). He will also visit Romanian science and technology institutions to see the country's scientific facilities.

In Bulgaria, Nelson will meet with Dr Rosen Karadimov, Minister of Innovation and Growth, and visit the country's only satellite manufacturer, which produces products for various companies worldwide.

During his travels to both countries, Nelson will discuss the importance of international partnerships and cooperation in space, including the transatlantic relationship with NASA. Nelson will also meet with students to highlight the benefits of science, technology, engineering and math education and the role of young people as representatives of the "Artemis Generation."
