The secretary general of the European liberal party ALDE Didrik de Schetzen warned that the the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) is threatened with exclusion, Euractiv reported.
"We are witnessing a growing concern. The concern in ALDE is about where the management of the MRF is going. This is a scary development and must be treated very seriously. There is a risk, if this continues, that we will end up in a situation where the MRF will suffer sanctions " Schetzen said after 4 other members of the group pushed for a decision.
The General Secretary did not exclude the possibility of expulsion if Delyan Peevski becomes the sole leader of the MRF, as he could drag the party in the wrong direction.
The four parties that have taken a stance on the matter are the Free Democrats, the Austrian NEOS, the Progressive Slovaks and the Dutch VVD.
"It is extremely important to make an honest assessment and avoid similar future events with regard to other parties that are members of ALDE," the four parties wrote.
They added that the MRF enjoys great respect in the liberal group as it has proven over time to be a reliable partner with a "clear liberal identity". Bulgarian MEP Ilhan Kyuchuk is one of the three co-chairmen of ALDE. | BGNES
