The important thing is in 2025 Bulgaria to be in the eurozone, said Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva, BGNES reports.
Georgieva added that this is quite realistic and that Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone is a priority. This is a way in which we can improve the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy, to reduce transaction costs in trade and in the financial sphere, for some sectors of the economy to increase Bulgaria's attractiveness and to be more attractive for an influx of investment in the country.
According to her, there are good conditions for the country to cover them by the end of the year, and at some time it could be in the eurozone.
She said they recommend the Bulgarian government to be particularly careful about those instruments that are in their hands and influence price movements not only for eurozone entry. "Because we all know that inflation is like a tax on people's incomes, and it is particularly hard on poorer populations here and everywhere in the world. Bulgaria managed to keep growth in positive territory last year and this year. For this year the forecasts are around 2.7%, Georgieva stressed.
She commented on inflation, saying it is expected to fall to below 4% by the end of the year. Bulgaria stands very well, except for inflation, which is not our problem. We did not create this inflation, Georgieva said.
