Georgi Dermendzhiev has returned in Razgrad

Georgi Dermendzhiev is the new head coach of Ludogorets. The news was announced on the official website of the club. The decision for his re-appointment was taken after emergency talks after it was confirmed that Ivaylo Petev will no longer be at the helm.

Dermendzhiev will coach the Bulgarian champions for the third time. With him The Eagleswon three championship league titles (2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17), and achieved their biggest ever success in the European competitions, reaching the group stage of the Champions league twice.

As a head coach Dermendzhiev, who formerly coached Levski and the Bulgarian national team, has been at the helm in Ludogorets for 123 matches – 77 wins, 30 draws and 25 losses in all competitions.

Dermendzhiev replaces Petev, who returned in the beginning of March this year. Former Bosnia and Herzegovina coach won the domestic title with Ludogorets and the Bulgarian Cup. But Petev was dismissed after the 0:0 draw with Arda – in the beginning of the month the champions were humiliated by Danish team Nordsjaelland in the Europa Conference League, losing 1:7. After that, the board of directors and the whole coaching staff resigned.

Dermendzhiev’s official debut will be against Turkish team Fenerbahce on Thursday evening in ECL. In Bulgaria Ludogorets’s next game is against Hebar Pazardzhik, who is coached by Lyuboslav Penev. /BGNES
