General Philippe Lavigne: The Balkans are on NATO's agenda, Russia is the main threat

The subject of the Balkans is on NATO's agenda. We do not pay attention only to the dangers in the Black Sea region, because the Alliance adheres to the strategy of a 360-degree approach.

This was stated by the Supreme Commander of NATO's Allied Command Transformation, General Philippe Lavigne, in response to a question from BGNES.

General Lavigne, who is visiting Bulgaria, held a meeting today with the Chief of Defense, Admiral Emil Eftimov.

Asked whether the NATO Command takes into account the threat posed by the Great Serbian ideas in the Balkans and how Bulgaria will be assisted in the event of a threat, given that Serbia in recent years has been re-arming itself with Russian weapons and there is a Russian base on its territory in the city of Nis , The Supreme Commander replied:

"Russia and terrorism are the two main threats to NATO. The subject of the Balkans was touched upon extensively at the summit in Vilnius, including by Bulgaria."

General Lavigne pointed out that the issues of what is happening in the region are discussed not only within the framework of the Alliance, but also in cooperation with the European Union. He emphasized that NATO adheres to the 360-degree approach, that is, it does not only consider the dangers of Russian aggression in the Black Sea, but also on the western borders of Bulgaria.

BGNES reminds that in the 1990s, Philippe Lavigne was a pilot in the French Air Force and participated in operations in the remnant of Yugoslavia. /BGNES
