"The rescue of Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War is a reason for deserved pride for modern Bulgarians. This page of Bulgarian history gives rise to inspiration and sets an example of unity and empathy."
This is what is said in the greeting on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel, read today at the official ceremony and March of Tolerance "We Remember" in Sofia on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews and the commemoration of the Jews who died in the Nazi death camps.
"The march has become an annual expression of the aspiration of the Bulgarian people for freedom, equality, humanity and harmonious coexistence, regardless of ethnicity and religion. Today more than ever there is a need for an active civil society that knows and defends its rights. A society in which tolerance, equality and humanism are fundamental moral values," added the Deputy Prime Minister in the position read by Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova, who took part in the ceremony.
The address reminded that in October 2023, the Council of Europe will adopt a resolution on the establishment of the European Union. The Council of Ministers adopted the National Action Plan to Combat Anti-Semitism 2023-2027. A national coordinator for the fight against anti-Semitism has also been appointed, placing Bulgaria among the leading EU member states. /BGNES
