The head coach of Dunav Lom Ferrario Spasov has died in a car accident near Veliko Tarnovo. The road accident happened around 17:00 yesterday on the road between Sofia and Varna, where two cars collided. A white sports car hit the one driven by Spasov from behind at high speed, and he died on the spot.
According to various sources, the Bulgarian specialist was returning from a match of his team in the Third League against Lokomotiv Gorna Oryahovitsa, in which Dunav Lom lost 1:3. He was traveling in his private car towards Lovech, when he was hit by a car that was traveling at 150 km/h and entered the oncoming lane near the Tarnovo village of Sheremetya.
Ferrario Spasov was born on February 20, 1962 in the city of Dupnitsa. As a football player, he played for Osam Lovech and Spartak Pleven. As a coach, he won promotion with Litex in the A group in the 1996/97 season, and in 1999 he led the "oranges" to the title. He also won the Bulgarian Cup with them in 2001.
In his coaching career, Spasov also led the teams of Olympic Galata, Spartak Varna, CSKA, Dunav Ruse, Botev Plovdiv, Montana, Etar, Spartak Pleven, Beroe, Levski Lom and Sevlievo, and he was also the coach of the U-17 Bulgarian national team.
