Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev sent a letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, which finalizes the procedure for nominating a candidate for European Commissioner from Bulgaria, BGNES reported.
The Prime Minister's correspondence is in response to a letter from Ursula von der Leyen, in which she thanked the Bulgarian government for the two candidacies proposed and, after interviews with the candidates, requested Prime Minister Glavchev to officially name Ekaterina Zaharieva as the only Bulgarian candidate.
In response to the letter of the President of the European Commission, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev officially presents the name of Ekaterina Zaharieva as a candidate for European Commissioner from Bulgaria.
Earlier today, Politico reported that Ekaterina Zaharieva was the choice of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for Bulgarian European Commissioner. According to the publication, she will receive a portfolio of crisis management and humanitarian aid.
"Bulgaria is not in the race for any of the key positions. Although Bulgaria has proposed two names - a man and a woman - Zaharieva will almost certainly get the job, as von der Leyen needs more women to have a gender-balanced composition of the Commission," the publication emphasizes.
BGNES recalls that Ekaterina Zaharieva entered big politics with the first GERB government, when she was deputy minister of regional development. She later moved to the Presidency after Rosen Plevneliev became head of state. Twice he was a minister in the official offices appointed by Plevneliev, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
In the third government of Boyko Borisov, Zaharieva headed the Bulgarian diplomacy for 4 years. I BGNES
