The southern coast of Bulgaria is excited by a new water sport - electric surfing.
These electric surfboards, called eFoils, which use underwater wings to rise above the water, offer an exciting and unique way to enjoy the sea.
Operated with a handheld joystick, eFoils allow riders to glide effortlessly over the water, creating a sensation similar to flying.
The eFoil is an electric surfboard powered by a battery motor with a hydrofoil underneath that lifts the board above the water as it picks up speed.
This design reduces drag and provides a smooth and quiet ride.
Surfers can control their speed and direction using a wireless remote, making the experience accessible even to beginners.
eFoils quickly became popular along the southern coast of Bulgaria, with surf schools now offering similar devices for rent.
The appeal lies in the unique experience of gliding over the water without the need for waves, and the eco-friendly nature of the electric motor.
However, like all water sports, eFoil surfing comes with risks.
The vertical plate holding the blade is metal and very sharp and should be handled with care.
The rise of eFoils in Bulgaria is also related to local innovations. At the tourist exhibition "Destination Varna" in 2022, a new electric surfboard developed by the Bulgarian company SiFly was presented.
The SiFly board, which is controlled by a remote control and powered by a powerful battery, can support the rider for more than 90 minutes at a speed of up to 45 km/h.
The board is gaining international popularity, with resorts in Dubai, Turkey, Spain and Portugal offering it to their guests. In Bulgaria, SiFly actively partners with hotels to include the service in tourist packages. |BGNES
