Bulgarian Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov will take part in the extraordinary meeting of the European Council, which will be held on February 1, 2024, in Brussels. The long-term budget of the European Union for the period 2021-2027 must be reviewed and strengthened it. This is necessary because of Russia's war against Ukraine, the consequences of the pandemic, and rising interest rates, the government press service announced.
EU leaders will discuss the creation of the Mechanism for Ukraine with a budget of 50 billion euros, as well as the creation of the Strategic Technology Platform for Europe (STEP), which aims to increase the competitiveness of the Union.
In Brussels, the Bulgarian Prime Minister will also hold meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The main topics of the talks are expected to be Bulgaria's accession to the Eurozone and the lifting of the land Schengen borders, as well as the strategic priorities for the European Union in the context of the new geopolitical and economic challenges. /BGNES
