The political crisis in Bulgaria continues after the National Assembly failed to elect a first-term government proposed by GERB-UDF (GERB - Union of Democratic Forces) with Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov. The crisis is also deepened by the instability within the second political party - the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), whose deputies split during the cabinet vote, reported BGNES.
MRF MP Hamid Hamid stated at the beginning of today's parliamentary day that there is no split in the Movement.
Ramadan Atalay, who was expelled from the PG of the MRF yesterday, emphasized that the Movement "has enough resistance forces" and when "someone encroaches on the eternal values of this party, they manifest themselves". Commenting on the division of votes – 30 MPs from MRF, led by one chairman, Delyan Peevski, supported the project cabinet, and another 14, led by the other chairman, Jevdet Chakarov, voted against – Atalai said: "One leads the authentic politics of MRF, the other is very ambitious. I wish him success." He repeated again that there are disagreements between Ahmed Dogan and Delyan Peevski and about the way of managing the party.
Jevdet Chakarov also emphasized that the one-man management in the MRF should be changed. "To be honest, there are tensions in the group, but hopefully we won't split." Management principles must change. One-man rule must be changed. We are all Euro-Atlantic, Mr. Dogan has drawn this path from the very beginning, we will all stand for this path", he is categorical.
He explained his vote against the proposed GERB-UDF cabinet as follows: "Zhelyazkov is a wonderful candidate for prime minister. However, it is not normal that there is no conversation in an EU member state".
The representatives of GERB-UDF are adamant that with the second mandate it will hardly be possible to form a government. Toma Bikov emphasized that the proposed option for an expert or program cabinet cannot solve the political crisis. According to him, such a cabinet will hide politicians. "Political crisis is solved by politicians", he emphasized and expressed his concerns about the possibility of our country taking the path of the presidential republic, which is a model absolutely unsuitable for Bulgaria.
Bykov recalled that already at the beginning of the 50 National Assembly of GERB, they indicated two possible options: "The first is for the widest possible range of political forces to participate in a general coalition government with an agreement, as is done according to the rules. The second option is inevitably to go to early elections, because that's how the citizens arranged us," he explained.
Regarding the processes in MRF, Bikov said that he did not hear Ahmed Dogan's analysis, but only what Ramadan Atalay announced. "Every serious political force wants to sign an agreement and participate seriously in governance. Managing GERB and MRF is neither theoretically nor practically possible in this parliament. We have a total of 115 deputies, and we need 121. This is what the math shows. The geometry shows that such a government would have no legitimacy in a parliament of 7 formations. To be legitimate, it must be supported by at least 3 formations," Bykov emphasized.
Lena Borislavova from the We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (WCC-DB) also does not see an option in this National Assembly to form a cabinet with one of the following mandates. "With 39 people's representatives, we do not have the legitimacy to form a cabinet," she is categorical.
If the second mandate is handed to us, we will treat it with full responsibility. This was stated by WCC-DB MP Yavor Bozhankov, commenting on the possibility that the second mandate will be handed to them if the PG of the MRF splits due to the processes within the Movement.
When asked if a coalition government formula GERB,WCC-DB and Ahmed Dogan's MRF is possible, he pointed out that we have to see how the situation will develop, but WCC-DB will not compromise with their priorities. According to him, the conversation with GERB is impossible. | BGNES
