With the decision of the Council of Ministers, the implementation of the construction of the 7th unit of the Kozloduy NPP will start. The enterprise that will be responsible for this realization will be capitalized with an additional BGN 500 million, and it will start negotiations with the companies that have to build the 7th block. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, a BGNES reporter reported.
The expected deadline is 2033. With the same decision, preparations will also begin for the 8th unit of the Kozloduy NPP, since the plan is for the two to proceed in parallel construction and within 2 to 3 years for both units to be ready, which are needed for the energy system, added Denkov.
Their total power is 2,300 megawatts, which significantly exceeds the power of 1,760 megawatts of the closed units 1 to 4 of the NPP. In addition, the technology chosen for these reactors is unique in the world, it allows to change the power of the reactors twice in a short period of time, which is important for the management of the energy system.
