Bulgarian tennis superstar Grigor Dimitrov: This was my best year

Bulgaria's best tennis player Grigor Dimitrov expects the competition to be even more serious next season, preparing by participating in the World Tennis League. The world number 14 has completed one of the strongest years of his career and is delighted with his performance over the past 12 months. At the World Tennis League, he helped SG Mavericks Kites reach the final with some impressive performances.

"I think it was the best year of my career, I did a lot of good things and played hard all year. Yes, I lacked certain things at times, I could have done better in certain situations, but I finished well, that was the important thing. Reaching the final of the Paris Masters was a step in the right direction. It's all in the past now. Everyone is playing good tennis at the moment. We will see new faces on the Tour and I think the competition will be even more serious next year," he began The 32-year-old Bulgarian in an interview with Gulf News.

Dimitrov opined that the World League helped him and the others who took part in it to get back on the court ahead of the busy upcoming season, which will also include the Paris Olympics. "It's the second year in a row that I'm playing in the World Tennis League and it's great that I've played in a new place in Abu Dhabi. I want to walk around the city more, but I don't have that opportunity right now because we're winning. So, anything goes. The tournament is important for everyone because they can see what their physical condition is before the new season."

The former world No. 3 doesn't want to set any goals in 2024, just stay healthy and fit to see how far he can go. "I don't have any specific goals for the new season, I just don't want to put extra pressure on myself. The amount of work I've done is very big. So the most important thing is to be mentally stable, but also physically. If you feel good, in good physical condition, the results will come. So you should always be ready and aware of what lies ahead."

Grigor played both Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz - the two best tennis players in the world at the moment - several times during the year, and according to the Haskovic, the two are completely different from each other. "There is no basis for comparison, they are completely different players, different generations. They play differently and have done different things, but they are the two best tennis players in the world, along with a few others. That is the situation at the moment and next year we will is even more exciting," concluded the Bulgarian. /BGNES
