Convening an extraordinary session of the Bulgarian National Assembly two days before the local elections is a pre-election campaign. Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said this to Bulgarian journalists in Brussels, BGNES reported.
Denkov has been in the Belgian capital since Thursday to participate in the EU summit. In front of the European leaders, the Bulgarian Prime Minister defended Bulgaria's arguments for our accession to the Schengen area.
According to him, two days before the local vote on Sunday, holding a meeting of the National Assembly on such a hot topic as energy supplies shows that it is a pre-election campaign rather than a desire to find a solution. "The veto lifting deadline allows this meeting to be held immediately after the second round," he said.
While Denkov is in Brussels, employees of the Bourgas refinery came out in protest in Burgas. The Prime Minister commented that the derogation should be handled carefully. "I explained it several times - if it is removed abruptly, huge risks would be created. First, for people who may see much higher fuel prices than they are at the moment. And second, for those working in the refinery," he explained.
In connection with the increase of the national contribution to the EU, he emphasized that Bulgaria's position is clearly expressed.
"The Bulgarian position is that we prefer this option, because the alternative is either not to finance these projects, and some of them are very important for us, such as on the topic of migration, protection of external borders, or to take funds from other programs like cohesion, the common agricultural policy, which we don't want to do. So our position is that it is better to collect more financial resources from the member states", said Denkov. /BGNES
