Bulgarian President Rumen Radev: There must be changes in the electoral legislation

"I voted for the dignified future of Sofia and for the dignified management of our capital".

This was stated by President Rumen Radev after exercising his right to vote, reported BGNES.

"Today, I want to call on all citizens not to allow themselves to be isolated from the electoral process in any way, on the contrary - we must vote en masse, because our own future, the future of our settlement and of Bulgaria depends on each one's vote", said the head of state.

Asked about Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov's request for the resignation of the head of State Agency for National security (SANS), Radev said: "Today we are all defining the face of local government and our future, so we must not allow the public focus to be replaced. There is time tomorrow for these questions as well.”

Bulgarian president expressed hope that after these elections, a thorough analysis of everything that happened will be done so that it does not happen again in the future. "All responsible institutions with a commitment to these elections must do a very deep analysis, a very clear report and see where things went wrong so that there is such a low voter turnout today," he pointed out.

Radev called on the institutions to do everything possible to restore trust in the elections, including in the voting machines. "This is extremely important, because the machines have proven their effectiveness in the fight against the invalid vote and the ugly filling - where consciously, where not so much, of the election protocols," he added.

The head of state pointed out that there should obviously be changes in the electoral legislation. "But look, not every parliament can constantly deal with changes in electoral legislation. This also confuses the election administration, the preparation of the people in this administration, ultimately confuses the voters," he said, adding that there should be changes, but they should be clearly focused on clarifying the electoral process.

Radev appealed to all the institutions involved in the elections and to the election administration with the words "to do everything necessary so that there is clarification, guaranteeing the honesty of the vote through the correct counting of every single vote". /BGNES
