Bulgarian President Radev: Restoring peace and security in Europe is a top priority

"Returning peace and security to Europe is a top priority, because only in this way can the EU fulfill its core mission of providing stability and prosperity to European citizens. Thousands of human lives in Europe in the future depend on our ability to comprehensively and critically analyze the realities in context of the war in Ukraine and to form goals and strategies adequate to the dynamics of the security environment. Therefore, it is time to finally use all the tools of diplomacy to achieve peace in Europe more quickly in accordance with the norms of international law ".

This was stated by President Rumen Radev in his speech after participating in the 19th meeting of the heads of state from the "Arayolush" group, which took place in the city of Krakow. The Bulgarian head of state is visiting Poland at the invitation of his Polish colleague Andrzej Duda. During at their meeting, the heads of state discussed major EU issues, including priority topics from the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union, which begins on January 1, 2025. This was reported by the press office of the presidency.

"The presidents of the EU member states from the "Arajolush" group expressed in Krakow common support for the European Commission's aspiration in its new mandate to focus on the development of sustainable competitiveness based on innovation and research and development activity. A key aspect in this direction is to ensure energy security by improving connectivity and investing in new technologies. This will increase EU autonomy and boost European industry.

Europe is also increasing defense assets and deepening transatlantic cooperation in the face of global challenges and threats. An integral part of strengthening transatlantic ties is upgrading the capabilities of the European defense industry. This also requires the strengthening of industrial cooperation between the EU and the USA, as well as the implementation of joint projects, especially in research and development, which will promote the development of the European economy.

The EU enlargement process is also important for Europe's stability and security. However, in order to be effective and irreversible, the enlargement process must take into account the principle of progress based on individual countries' own merits, the implementation of the necessary reforms and commitments, as well as respect for human rights and the rule of law," President Radev announced. in his personal profile on Facebook I BGNES
