Bulgarian President Radev: North Macedonia pursues policy against EU principles

"Today the masks have finally fallen. The new government in our south-western neighbour has clearly shown that the biggest fear of the political class in this country is to recognise the very existence of the words 'Bulgarian' and 'Bulgarian' in North Macedonia."

This is what Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said, BGNES reported.

"This is a policy aimed directly against the European principles and decisions taken by consensus by all EU member states," against the international commitments undertaken by North Macedonia and against its own citizens, who have made clear their support for the country's European development," Radev said, commenting on Macedonian Prime Minister Mitkoski's demands to Bulgaria to change the negotiating framework, about which BGNES first informed.

The President expects immediate concrete actions from both the Bulgarian government and the European institutions to uphold European principles and norms in the enlargement process. "If the EU does not commit itself to a European perspective in the Balkans based on clear norms and values, then sooner or later the Balkans will face Balkanisation in Europe," Radev warned. | BGNES
