At the Consultative Council for National Security /CCNS/ the topic was raised that about 100 km of the barrier on the Bulgarian-Turkish border were missing, as a result of which we, together with Minister Zapryanov, Minister Ilkov, the head of the Border Police and the head of the Defence Ministry, flew over the facility on Monday. We then carried out an inspection on the ground. It turned out that the entire fence was in place.
This is what Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said today, BGNES reported.
Among other things, if there are compromised sections - they are restored within 24 hours. So we can be calm about the barrier, it is there, all along the Bulgarian-Turkish border. With one small exception - at the Tundja river, but there are 50 meters, which are compensated with patrols, the prime minister added.
In view of the situation in the Middle East and potential migrant pressure, more decisions should be taken, which are more related to increasing video surveillance. And God forbid, if the migrant pressure increases, that the number of people patrolling and the number of vehicles increase. Otherwise, so far, the Border Police, together with the Ministry of Defence and in cooperation with our partners from Turkey, have been coping very well with the migrant pressure. It has decreased by 71% as a result of the joint measures, compared to 2023, Glavchev said. There were calls at the CCNS to increase spending on national security, only an increase in one sector means a decrease in someone else. It's a simple calculation, I expect that when we present the draft budget, politicians will determine what to prioritize at the expense of another, the prime minister clarified. | BGNES
