The Executive Director of the International Diplomatic Academy in Washington and journalist Nicholas Kralev presented his book Diplomatic Tradecraft at an event in Sofia, organized by the US Embassy in Bulgaria and the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria, BGNES reported.
"Diplomacy and Journalism: 35 Years After the Fall of the Berlin Wall" was attended by U.S. Ambassador to the country Kenneth Merten, other diplomats, public figures and journalists.
Nicholas Kralev specializes in diplomacy and international relations, and his work has taken him to nearly 100 countries over more than 20 years.
He is a former correspondent for the Financial Times and the Washington Times. He has witnessed firsthand the conduct of American diplomacy while accompanying U.S. Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright on their travels around the world.
Kralev stressed that war is always more costly than diplomacy and pointed out that countries should pay much more attention to their diplomatic services.
The book is a teaching tool aimed at practical knowledge and skills for modern diplomats.
Diplomatic Tradecraft brings together 18 professional ambassadors with decades of experience to lift the veil on a mysterious but vital profession and pass on the knowledge and skills they have acquired to their successors.
Beginning with an overview of diplomatic institutions and protocols, the book examines the key features of diplomatic communication and negotiation, as well as the major specializations, including economic, consular, and public diplomacy. With engaging narratives, case studies and scenarios, the chapters on the various aspects of diplomatic practice form a comprehensive work written in an accessible and engaging style. | BGNES
