Bulgarian Foreign Ministry summons temporary Russian embassy administrator over Navalny's death

The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the interim head of the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria for a meeting. This was reported on Facebook by the Russian Embassy. The reason for the talk was the death of Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny.

The Russian Embassy commented:

"On 23 February, the interim head of the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria was invited to a conversation at the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry. During the meeting the Bulgarian side expressed expectations regarding clarification of the causes of death of A. Navalny. Navalny, and also shared some tendentious assessments of the political situation in Russia in the form of already familiar Western clichés.

For our part, we stressed that the situation surrounding A. Navalny is an exclusively internal matter for Russia and any attempts to put pressure on the country's authorities are nothing more than interference in internal affairs. We stressed that before making statements on this matter, it is necessary to await the results of the investigation, which is being carried out by the competent authorities in full compliance with the legislation of the Russian Federation." / BGNES
