Bulgarian FM Maria Gabriel: Vienna Economic Forum demonstrates that Southeast Europe is a factor of stability

Vienna Economic Forum's twentieth anniversary edition was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel. This year's motto is "We continue to build economic bridges in difficult times."

The forum's chairman, Ambassador Viktor Jakovic, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the chairman of Glavbolgarstroy Holding's board of directors, Eng. Kalin Peshov, and the president of the Marmara Group Foundation, Dr. Akan Suver, all attended the inaugural ceremony. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Gabriel offered special gratitude to Ambassador Dr. Elena Kircheva, founder and Secretary General of the Vienna Economic Forum.

"Vienna Economic Forum is a growth engine. It plays a key role in identifying solutions to global and regional difficulties," stated Maria Gabriel, highlighting three major challenges. "First and foremost, the region of South-Eastern Europe requires a clear vision in key strategic areas such as energy, transportation, and infrastructure." Second, it is critical to invest in innovation in order to benefit and provide clear perspectives to the next generation. Education and training are critical in this situation. Third, Vienna Economic Forum has consistently demonstrated that the Western Balkans have a place in the EU. They are Europeans. It is now critical to determine which steps in the enlargement process would provide tangible advantages to citizens."

Vienna Economic Forum was founded in 2004 with the strategic goal of encouraging regional collaboration and dialogue among Member States in the Adriatic-Black Sea area. For almost two decades, the forum has served as a link between the economy and politics. It brings together politicians, economists, and diplomats for critical conversations aimed at boosting the regional economy.

"With its work over the last two decades, the forum has demonstrated that the region of South-Eastern Europe is a factor of stability, security, and development." "Europe needs the region, and the region needs Europe," emphasised the Deputy Prime Minister. "I wish the forum to continue to contribute to finding sustainable solutions to regional problems, help attract investments and support young talents" .

Sofia will host the next Vienna Economic Forum gathering on April 22, 2024, at the recommendation of Maria Gabriel. /BGNES
