Bulgaria after days of wildfires - now storms hit, cars swept away, trees uprooted, villages without electricity

The heat and fires, which covered a number of areas in southern Bulgaria, contrast with the strong storm that swept over part of northern Bulgaria. Heavy rains and strong winds caused cars to be swept away and damaged, trees uprooted, and a number of villages were left without electricity, BGNES reported.

In 40 minutes, 16 liters of rain fell per square meter in Pleven. The heaviest rainfall was between 18:25 and 19:10. For the last part of the hotline in the municipality, dozens of reports were received from citizens about problems related mainly to fallen branches and broken trees.

Local Fire Department teams respond to calls and clear fallen trees.

Trolleys serve all lines in Pleven. There are no problems with the contact network, informed Eng. Angel Nestorov, manager of the municipal carrier.

The storm that swept through Rusensko this afternoon led to a temporary power outage in a number of settlements in the region. About 5,000 people remained without electricity, and at the moment their number is significantly smaller. The emergency teams of "Electric Distribution North" are still working to repair the damage. The strong wind also resulted in dozens of fallen trees and broken branches both in Rousse and on the national road network. Traffic in the direction Ruse - Byala was temporarily difficult, where there were fallen trees in the section between Dve Mogili and Obretenik, as well as in the direction of Exarch Yosif. Trees had also fallen on the road Ruse - Silistra in the section between Ruse and Slivo Pole. For this reason, in the problem sections, drivers had to enter the oncoming traffic lane to bypass the obstacles.
