"Bulgargaz" files a lawsuit against "Gazprom" for over 400 million euros

Bulgargaz is claiming damages from the supply cut at the end of April 2022, two months after the start of the war in Ukraine.

More than two years ago, Gazprom Export terminated deliveries under its contract with Bulgargaz. After a delay of this 2-year period, the new management of "Bulgargaz" has made a decision and will claim damages suffered from the termination of supplies from "Gazprom" for more than 400 million euros.

This was announced by the Acting Minister of Energy, Vladimir Malinov, a BGNES reporter reported.

Bulgargaz's claim will first be claimed against Gazprom Export, and a short period will be given for a voluntary agreement to be reached. In the event that this is not achieved, the management of "Bulgargaz" will file an arbitration case before the arbitration court of the International Chamber of Industry in Paris.

The Acting Minister of Energy clarified that the deadline that "Bulgargaz" will give to "Gazprom Export" is extremely short, since there is a delay of more than two years for the settlement of the matter.

"They should be given no more than a month to reach an agreement," added Malinov.

BGNES recalls that the Russian company stopped supplies at the end of April 2022, two months after the start of the war in Ukraine.

The executive director of Bulgargaz, Veselin Sinabov, said for his part that the payment will not be made in advance, but will be paid 20 days after the ship's delivery.

"This will affect the price that we submitted to KEVR today, he announced, adding that the projected increase will be reduced by about 3%, i.e. instead of 11%, the increase will be 8%.

During the briefing, it became clear that there is no claim filed by Gazprom against Bulgargaz.

The line minister also announced that the Turkish company "Botash" will make a discount of 11 million euros for Bulgaria in June.

At the end of April, the minister traveled to Turkey to negotiate with the company, as it became clear that the contract was unprofitable for Bulgaria. The 13-year contract is worth more than 2 billion dollars and was signed by Galab Donev's office.

13 companies have expressed their desire to receive gas through Turkey through the contract with Botash. /BGNES
