Britain accused a sixth Bulgarian of spying for Russia

On February 27, British police charged a sixth Bulgarian citizen as part of an investigation into alleged espionage activities linked to the Russian state, AFP reported.

Tihomir Ivanov Ivanchev, 37, living in West London, was arrested on February 7 as part of an investigation led by the Metropolitan Police's Counter-Terrorism Command.

He was remanded in custody to appear at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Ivanchev is accused of "conspiracy to collect information intended to be directly or indirectly useful to the enemy with the aim of harming the security and interests of the state".

Five people have already been charged in the same investigation and are due to face a four-month trial starting in October.

They are alleged to have "conspired with and with Jan Marsalek and other as-yet-unidentified individuals to obtain, collect, record, publish or transmit documents or information" about Moscow.

Marsalek is the Austrian former chief operating officer of the payments company Wirecard, who became wanted in Germany on fraud charges./BGNES
