On May 5, Easter, unit five of the nuclear plant will be shut down for scheduled annual maintenance and refueling.
Pursuant to Kozloduy NPP's diversification program, Westinghouse-produced RWFA cartridges will be loaded into the unit's reactor, following approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Agency. The amount of new cartridges required for the first recharge was delivered to Kozloduy NPP on April 20. A quarter of the cartridges in the reactor are replaced during each refueling during the annual planned repairs, thus the process of phased transition to the new nuclear fuel will last 4 years.
During the stay, which is planned to end by mid-June, the necessary activities for repair, prevention and preventive maintenance of the equipment and systems of block 5 will be carried out. This will ensure the safe and reliable operation of the nuclear power during the next fueling campaign of the reactor.
The sixth unit of the Kozloduy NPP operates according to the electricity production schedule./BGNES
