I have never said that I am the most worthy candidate for BFU's chair. This was stated by Dimitar Berbatov in the program "The Day Begins" on BNT. The top scorer in the history of the national team spoke about a number of topics, including the relocation of "The Lions" match with Hungary to Plovdiv and the glaring need to hold an honest and transparent electoral Congress.
Berbatov commented on the statement of the majority owner of Levski Nasko Sirakov during the General Meeting of shareholders in the club that The Blues are against the current leadership of the Bulgarian Football Union. “He said it the other day. I am glad that more and more people and clubs are seeing the need for this overdue change and are now coming together and speaking out that this management is disastrous. I have not had a conversation with Nasko Sirakov. The question should be to him, but as soon as he says it, it is indicative of the management of Bulgarian football".
Former Manchester United striker is pleased with the upcoming meeting of the Ministry of Youth and Sports with the BFU and the disaffiliated clubs. “I'm delighted that this meeting is happening - clubs that have been wrongfully excluded will have the opportunity to simply be heard. This is the mediation that the MYS should do. The state can listen to both sides - from then on, the decision is entirely theirs", he said and continued:
"The state has to be in every step afterwards - it will be a major factor in the infrastructure. But she can't work with these managers. When blame is placed on people who are in no way to blame, you cannot continue to suffer. Shall we be silent, how many years are we waiting? Everyone has their reasons, but we're continuing with persistence - I have the right team around me, yes, as early as three years ago - but we started when we thought it was right".
Berbatov once again called for an honest and transparent electoral Congress. "We are fighting for Congress because that is the most democratic solution to this problem. It goes through the resignation of the current leadership, of course, Congress must be honest and transparent. I have a lot of things to do. I have never said that I am the most worthy - we present the programs, from there on it's up to the clubs. I cannot say whether there is political pressure or not. Since the state is represented by the sports minister, they must take action - this is detrimental. I think the minister had such appearances, I congratulate him - but they should be more often".
"It is significant that in the stadiums the fans in the 18th minute are chanting 'Resignation'. This will turn into a peaceful protest. Moving a match of the national team to Plovdiv, then blackmailing the engineer, it is absurd. What does Lokomotiv Pd have to do with it? The team is supported. The boys are also responsible, I have been in their place. The people who rule are not supported. A toxic and disgusting environment has been created".
The BFU presidential candidate also returned to the electoral Congress in October 2021. “My biggest mistake at that Congress was that I was a gentleman, I should have acted like them. We will go all the way, yes, we are fighting for the good of Bulgarian football. Now they are all united, the charge is even greater. There is nothing to deny us, this is our cause. If the clubs are satisfied with what I present, they should vote for me", concluded Berbatov. /BGNES
