Berbatov after losing the elections for the president of the Bulgarian Football Union: There is nothing to be ashamed of

There is nothing to be ashamed of, the clubs made their choice. This was stated by the candidate for the president of the Bulgarian Football Union, Dimitar Berbatov, after Georgi Ivanov - Gonzo was elected as the new president of the headquarters, BGNES reported.

Berbatov once again failed to become the head of Bulgarian football, after finishing second behind Gonzo with 181-235 votes in the battle for the position. "The clubs decided, it's their right. That's what they did. We, for our part, can hold our heads high, but the clubs decided that someone else should take the responsibility of leading Bulgarian football. We congratulated Georgi Ivanov and wished him success. I didn't see anything wrong with the vote. He declared himself the Executive Committee - I can speak for myself. There's no point in being in the Executive Committee if you're not in the majority," the former Manchester United striker began and continued:

"This is the will of the clubs. Let's give the new president time, because he has won the trust of the clubs after all. I'm rooting for Stilian and Martin, I've got enough going on. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Whenever you lose a fight, it's never a good feeling, we'll debrief. Everything that depended on us was done. Georgi Ivanov, who is part of the management of the BFS, may continue the line of management, but we have yet to find out."

"It is strange when we have been fighting for three years, and some other candidates have done their campaign in three months. It doesn't always turn out the way one imagines it," Berbatov said. When asked by BGNES whether, in his opinion, there have been mistakes during the past three years, he replied: "Honestly, I don't think so. We sincerely hope that a change, not a replacement, has been achieved. Let the new president be given time. Biggest loss is a big word - maybe there will be disappointment in the coming days, but on first reading the question of whether I made a mistake, I don't think we missed anything. If we didn't succeed, then it wasn't 100% enough."

"These legal battles wear everyone out. The public is sick of them. I think that after 3 years the new president should be given a chance". When asked by BGNES about the positives of these three years, Berbatov stated: "We showed the last three years how we want to work, we learned a lot, we created a pretty good team. We're not going anywhere, we're not disappearing, everyone has their own lives, we'll keep in touch," he concluded. /BGNES
