As of 4:00 p.m., voter turnout in the Bulgarian local elections runoff was 26.40%

As of 4:00 p.m. in the second round of local elections, voter turnout for the entire country was 26.40%. The lowest activity is in Ruse - 15.77%, and the highest is in the town of Roman - 77.94%.

For Sofia, the voter turnout at this hour is 23.72%. In comparison to the first round of voting for local government, the turnout in the capital at that time was almost the same - 25.63%.

The information about the voter turnout and the received signals of violations on the day of the run-off was announced by the Central Election Commission (CEC) spokesperson Rositsa Mateva, BGNES reported.

For comparison, in the first round of the local elections, the voter turnout at 4:00 p.m. was higher or exactly 34.16%.

Rositsa Mateva warned the media that publish the results of the vote. The CEC has sent a warning to these media outlets to stop publishing, Mateva said.

The spokesperson said that so far machine voting has been suspended for 47 machines in 47 voting sections. 10 machines were stopped in Sofia.

On the territory of the District of Sofia, there have been reports that voters who vote with a machine also choose to vote for regional mayors, but the machine prints only one ballot. The instructions are to destroy such a ballot and the voter must vote by paper ballot. CEC members must place two stamps on paper ballots and one on machine ballots.

Voters should be careful not to stack paper ballots on top of each other to avoid smudging the ballots. Even if there is smudging, the vote will be valid, added Mateva.

Sections in the villages affected by the storm yesterday are working without a problem. Somewhere they started with backup battery power for the voting machines, but then switched back to electric power.

"No delays are expected in handing over the protocols this evening", Mateva added. /BGNES
