GERB-SDS mayoral candidate Anton Hekimyan made his first comment after the vote in Sunday's local elections put him in third place in the race for Sofia.
With 44.09% of Sectional Election Commission's protocols processed, the "We Continue the Change - Democratic Byulgaria" and "Save Sofia" (PP-DB-SS) coalition candidate for mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, received 31.36% of the votes. In second place is Vanya Grigorova, supported by the local coalition "BSP for Bulgaria", with 21.84%. GERB-SDS candidate Anton Hekimyan received 17.92%, making 28,293 votes of support.
"I thank everyone who supported me and voted for me. I respect the choice of those who did not support me and I congratulate the candidates who are going to the runoff," wrote Hekimyan on the social network the day after the vote.
"The results of this vote are worrying: the first claimed the pole position with only 34,000 votes (so far) out of 1,100,000 eligible voters... At the same time, in Sofia 4.1% do not support anyone and this result is growing," says Hekimyan and continues : "For me and maybe for those who didn't vote, there is a difficult choice ahead between state security and state property! And yes - everyone is responsible for their choices. I made mine and I don't regret it. I will work and defend it!" . /BGNES
