2 years since the tragic accident in which 45 Macedonian citizens died

Today marks 2 years since the tragic accident on the "Struma" highway, in which 45 Macedonian citizens died. The serious accident happened on November 23, 2021 at 3 a.m., at night on the highway, where a Macedonian bus caught fire, BGNES reported.

Among the dead were 12 minors. The driver also died in the accident. 7 people - 2 women and 5 men survived.

The bus entered through the "Capitan Andreevo" checkpoint shortly after 9 p.m. the night before. Around 3:00 a.m., the accident happened on the highway in the direction of Sofia - Blagoevgrad.

Heads of state institutions of both countries arrived at the scene of the huge tragedy.

The government declared three days of national mourning.

The bus was one of several operated by Besa Trans, a travel agency based in the capital Skopje. It offers regular trips to Istanbul on long weekends, which are particularly popular with members of North Macedonia's large Albanian minority.
