On September 6, 1885, the unification of the Principality of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia took place.
With this act the Bulgarians repaired the unjust terms of the Treaty of Berlin of 1878, which had broken their unity.
The great disappointment was that the Unification was not supported by Russia, which did not want a strong Bulgarian state in the Balkans.
Serbia declared itself against Unification and started a war. The Serbian invasion was repulsed at Slivnitsa and Dragoman, where the young Bulgarian army led by captains inflicted a crushing defeat on the Serbian aggressor.
After the Unification it became the leading country in the European Southeast and maintained this position until the Balkan Wars. I BGNES
