Turkey ratified the tripartite agreement with Bulgaria and Romania to clear mines in the Black Sea. We cannot talk about security in the Black Sea while Russian aggression against Ukraine continues.
This was stated by the Acting Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov at the Second Conference dedicated to security in the Black Sea, within the framework of the International Crimean Platform, a BGNES reporter reported.
The conference at the Central Military Club is jointly organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Ukraine, in partnership with the Center for Defense Strategies (Ukraine).
Zapryanov pointed out that the situation in the Black Sea is not calm, as active military operations are taking place in its northern part. The minister stated that the Ukrainian drones forced the Russian fleet to withdraw as far as possible. This confirms that the region is a "theatre of war", explained the minister.
He stated that sea mines used by both sides in the conflict pose a threat to the country (Bulgaria) and shipping.
This morning, Atanas Zapryanov received information from the Turkish ambassador that the Turkish parliament has ratified the tripartite agreement with Bulgaria and Romania to clear mines in the Black Sea - (Mine-Action Naval Group in the Black Sea (MSM Black Sea)).
"We have the green light to implement the agreement in practice. So far we have been doing pre-coordination. Military planning is already starting,” the defense minister said.
The aim of the cooperation is to avoid tragic situations caused by sea mines. /BGNES
