Zakharova: The West is using the lithium issue to provoke anti-government protests in Serbia

"Under the guise of good intentions, Western ideologues, through puppet media and non-governmental organizations, want to cause negative emotions in Serbian society to turn it against the state leadership."
This was stated by the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, TASS reported.

Maria Zakharova stated that "attempts to destabilize the political situation in Serbia are destructive and irresponsible".

"The analysis of the current situation in friendly Serbia shows repeated attempts by certain malicious forces to activate the known destructive arsenal in order to undermine the internal political situation in that country," Zakharova said.

She added that "this time the emphasis is on using topics that are far from politics to cause public discontent, shake stability and ultimately discredit the legitimately elected government."

According to Zahrova, certain pseudo-democratic circles are cynically trying to exploit citizens' natural concern for the environment and their attitude towards mining projects.

"At the same time, nobody cares about arguments and considerations of expediency," the spokesman said.
She notes that "this is a notorious scheme that has been used many times by the Western ideologues of democracy and their local minions in the Balkans as well as in other regions".

"The idea is, under the guise of good intentions, through puppet media and non-governmental organizations, to encourage negative emotions in society so that people turn against the state leadership," Zakharova explained.

"The provocateurs are counting on the authorities to lose control over the situation," she pointed out.
"We consider such tactics destructive and irresponsible. Abuses of this kind, especially in troubled times like the present, pose a direct threat to Serbia, calling into question the constant efforts of its president and government to ensure the sustainable development of the country and the well-being of its citizens," said Zakharova.

She concluded that "such efforts hinder the implementation of an independent and principled course both in domestic affairs and in the international arena." | BGNES
