EU membership is a strategic goal of North Macedonia. Fulfilling the obligations that are part of the negotiating framework with the EU remain a firm commitment of the government.
This was stated by the Macedonian Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi at the meeting with the EP rapporteur for the Ilhan Kyuchyuk in Skopje.
Today, the two discussed the country's progress along the European path, as well as the domestic political situation before the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections.
Xhaferi and Kyuchyuk exchanged views on the reforms achieved in the country, as well as the dynamics of relations between the countries of the Western Balkans and the European Union. The two interlocutors agreed that the continuation of the enlargement process is in the interest of the European Union and thus the countries of the Western Balkans will be focused on strengthening the implementation of the reforms.
"Your election is a huge success for Macedonian democracy and can serve as an example throughout the region. My political party DPS strongly believes in the success of our good-neighborly relations, because we have something to give to each other," said Kyuchyuk.
During the meeting, he conveyed greetings from the chairman of the parliamentary group, Delyan Peevski, who sent a congratulatory address on the occasion of Talat Xhaferi's election as prime minister. It emphasizes that this historic achievement is proof of the united society of North Macedonia. The letter also says that the new leadership in the country is a significant step forward in the democratization of North Macedonia and a clear demonstration of its commitment to inclusive governance.
"DPS is a strong supporter of North Macedonia's European aspirations and we are determined to work closely together to strengthen the bilateral ties between our two peoples. We are sure that our cooperation will contribute to the prosperity and stability of the region," the congratulatory address also states.
Kyuchyuk emphasized that Talat Xhaferi is a name established over time and emphasized that the success achieved with the dialogue "Jean Monet" is highly appreciated.
For his part, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia thanked Ilhan Kyuchyuk for his cooperation over the years and was categorical that the country's European path is not in doubt. The Prime Minister assured the reporter that he will continue to work for the consolidation of democracy, for high democratic standards and respect for the rights of all citizens of North Macedonia, including the Bulgarians. /BGNES
