"Russia helped Serbia maintain constitutional order during the unrest in the country's capital," said the former head of the Serbian Intelligence Agency (BIA), Aleksandar Vulin, "Danas" reported.
"Russia is a partner, an ally that respects the will of the Serbian people. Russia was with Serbia and this time our constitutional order was preserved," said the US-sanctioned Vulin.
He added that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is the only leader in Europe who has not imposed sanctions on Russia, and that, according to Vulin, was his "decision from day one of the anti-Russian hysteria."
Vulin pointed out that he was proud to be the only head of an intelligence agency in Europe who did not succumb to anti-Russian sentiment.
"I paid the price, but if it helps Serbia to keep its century-old ally, peace and stability, resist attempts to overthrow the government and the president, then it was worth it," said the former head of the BIA.
During the interview, he also indicated that the West was behind the violent protests in Belgrade. According to him, the West initially tried to gather right-wing movements to encourage them to participate in the protests, but this was not possible.
"The protests in Serbia are not a tool to put pressure on Kosovo and sanctions against Russia," Vulin told the Russian media, but an attempt to overthrow President Aleksandar Vucic.
According to him, "the West demands that Belgrade recognize the independence of Kosovo, stop supporting Republika Srpska and impose sanctions on the Russian Federation - to stop being a sovereign state and people".
Vulin also said that his removal from the post of head of the special service was part of the "preparation for the Maidan".
"This is no longer pressure, because it is clear to the West that as long as Vucic is at the head of Serbia, there will be no recognition of Kosovo and the introduction of sanctions against Russia. This is an attack on the removal of Vucic from power. The pressure for my removal from office head of the BIA served to bring about the "color revolution" and was the first step towards the ultimate goal".
"My resignation gave us time to reduce the attacks during the election campaign, but we knew that immediately after the defeat, the pro-NATO party would activate a mechanism to overthrow Vucic," commented Vulin.
He indicated that the attacks against him personally began after two years ago he and the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev spoke and discussed the opposition to the "color revolutions".
"We represent serious countries and serious intelligence services, we look forward. As you can see, we are well prepared. My replacement could not eliminate all the useful things we did for Serbia, and the opponents were late," the former head emphasized. /BGNES
