Vucic: The elections are regular, the next vote will be in 2027

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic made an emergency statement today regarding calls by the opposition coalition "Serbia Against Violence" to annul the results of the country's local and parliamentary elections that took place last Sunday. According to him, for all 496 complaints filed by the opposition, the interior ministry found that all of them were unfounded. Vucic said there will be new elections in Belgrade if he does not have the necessary majority. He announced that the new parliament will meet at the beginning of January next year, and by the end of February there will be a new government. Vucic once again emphasized that he will not recognize the "self-proclaimed independence" of Kosovo.

Vucic will not support "any document that would oblige him to support and help the authorities in Pristina to be members of the United Nations".

According to him, from neighboring Republika Srpska, which is part of BiH, only 5,100 people voted in Belgrade. "The elections went practically without a single incident, fewer complaints compared to the past. I am proud of the way the vote went," he also said.

Vucic's statement was broadcast on RTS state television and all pro-government media.

Together with Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Burnabych was in the presidency building.

Regarding the hunger strike of one of the leaders of the opposition, Ms. Marinika Tepic, the president called: "I want to ask them to end the main strike, return to their duties, and organize free protests."

According to Vucic, there will be no "forcible change of power in Serbia. Power changes in elections. Serbia is a democratic country." With these words, Vucic responded to Marinika Tepic's call that "the president needed psychiatric treatment." /BGNES
