"Turkey and Serbia have a long history of cooperation and these meetings provide an opportunity to deepen ties, especially in the security and economic fields."
This is what Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic wrote on his Instagram account after holding an official meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan at the presidential palace in Belgrade.
According to Vucic, Erdogan's visit is a great honour for Serbia "especially at a time when the global scene is marked by challenges, both political and economic, which further underlines its importance."
"At the political level, this visit gives impetus to the strengthening of relations between our two countries, which contributes to the stability of the Western Balkans, a region that has often been plagued by conflict and tension throughout history, seeking peace and genuine prosperity," the Serbian president wrote.
He noted that Turkey is one of the biggest investors in Serbia and added that he and Erdogan will discuss new projects and investments, infrastructure projects, energy and trade. Vucic said such issues are of great importance for his country, "especially in these difficult global economic situations."
"That is why this visit is important for us, as it represents a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties in difficult times, strengthening the platform for future dialogue and cooperation as key factors for peace and stability in the Balkans," the Serbian head of state added.
BGNES recalls that Erdogan arrived in Serbia on 10 October for a two-day visit. Earlier on 10 October, the Turkish president paid an official visit to Albania, where he met Prime Minister Edi Rama and participated in the opening of the Namazja mosque. | BGNES
