There is a need to establish an Association of Serbian Municipalities (ASM) and urgently hold local elections in northern Kosovo.
This is what Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in a conversation with the European Union's special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue Miroslav Lajcak, N1 television reported.
Vucic asked for "the EU's support to stop further provocations by Pristina".
"I reaffirm Serbia's readiness to fulfil its obligations by respecting the Constitution of Serbia and the UN Charter," the Serbian head of state said.
"I stressed the need for the formation of the AUC and the urgent holding of local elections in Kosovo and Metohija. I asked for EU support to stop further provocations coming from Pristina," Vucic wrote in an Instagram post.
BGNES recalls that local elections in northern Kosovo in May 2023 were boycotted by ethnic Serbs and the Serbian List party. Riots ensued over the election of Albanian mayors and clashes with the country's NATO peacekeeping force, KFOR. Over 30 peacekeepers were injured during the riot. /BGNES
