Today, the Parliament of Montenegro will cement the country's pro-Serbian government, BGNES reported.
MPs will elect new members of the ruling coalition from the ranks of two pro-Serbian and pro-Russian parties close to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Partners of Prime Minister Milojki Spajic and the ruling party Europe Now! will be Andrija Mandic, leader of the far-right "New Serbian Democracy" and speaker of the parliament, and Milan Knežević, chairman of the "Democratic People's Party" and member of the chairmanship of the "Democratic Front" alliance.
The three politicians reached the joint management deal already last year. The functioning of the cabinet has so far depended on the votes of the pro-Serbian MPs.
Mandić and Knežević are against the recognition of Kosovo and deny international sanctions for Russian aggression against Ukraine.
BGNES reminds that in 2016 a coup d'état was attempted in the country on election day in October to divert Podgorica from the path to NATO and the European Union.
Two Russian citizens Eduard Shishmakov and Vladimir Popov, and eight Serbian citizens and leaders Milan Knežević and Andrija Mandić were preparing a violent change of government with the active support of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC), according to the Special Prosecutor's Office. The aim was to overthrow and kill Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic.
In 2020, the SOC, through its former Metropolitan of Montenegro, Amfilohje, launched six months of protests against Djukanović, who was the country's president at the time. He accused Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic of directly interfering in Montenegro's internal affairs in an attempt to revive "Greater Serbia".
On July 15, Djukanovic announced that an assassination attempt was being prepared against him by a "neighbouring country". The politician was informed that an attempt would be made against him by an organized criminal group, after which he notified the country's security services. The competent prosecutor's office has opened proceedings. | BGNES
