US to North Macedonia: There will be no renegotiation of the treaty with Bulgaria, nor of the Prespa agreement

There will be no renegotiation of the negotiating framework, nor of the Treaty of Friendship with Bulgaria. These treaties are a fact. This was stated by the US ambassador in Skopje, Angela Aggeler, BGNES reported.

"I want to be very clear. The Prespa agreement is historic for this country. I know it was very difficult for many people in the country to accept the name change. But it was an international treaty that was accepted by the government of the time and the international community accepted it. Of course, you were part of that process and supported it. This allowed North Macedonia to join NATO and to advance towards the European Union," Aggeler said in an interview with Radio Free Europe.

Regarding the good-neighbourliness treaty with Bulgaria, she said: "There will be no renegotiation for the Prespa treaty, nor for progress towards the EU. This is very clear", Ambassador Ageler emphasized.

Referring to the appointment of the infamous leader of the Serbs in North Macedonia Ivan Stoilkovic as Deputy Prime Minister, who is considered close to Moscow, the US diplomat said, "I don't know him personally, I don't know to what extent the new Deputy Prime Minister's position has changed compared to the previous period. Yesterday I met with the prime minister and the defense minister. I had excellent talks with both of them about Ukraine. They gave me assurances about NATO support for Ukraine. I am now confident that when they visit Washington in the coming weeks, they will reiterate that position." І БГНЕС
